Votes shown in brackets after artist's name, where known (in the order LW DM CC SC). Song choices (where known) are given with original performing artist - as in most cases the performer puts their own spin on it anyway. Artists are colour-coded according to their category: Boys (16-24), Girls (16-24), Over 25s, and Groups.
Danyl Johnson (YYYY)
Probably the best audition I have ever seen on a talent show, but wouldn't have been possible without the live audience.
DM: "When you see a performance like that, it's the absolute perfect audition. It is so exciting to be sitting here on this panel."
LW: "Danyl, I thank God that you came in today. Your kids are going to be very proud. Fantastic."
CC: "You're a natural born performer and I would take you in my category right now."
SC: "Okay, Dannyl. I've been doing this, how many years? 8, 9 years? Okay, Dannyl. That was single-handedly the best first audition I have ever heard."
DM: "You know what, there's a few people that actually want to go back to school now because of you."
SC: "I like this boy. Teaches kids, great voice, but a great, great performer."
DM: "Some days you're waiting for that star, you're looking for them and it just feels like it's never going to happen and then he walked in."
SC: "I think he could be one of the best contestants we've ever had."
(Song choice: The Beatles - With A Little Help From My Friends)
Stacey Soloman (YYYY)
Pretty great voice, nice person, good story.
CC: "You know what, I don't know why I had a preconceived idea, but I didn't expect it to be that good. Thank you."
LW: "Stacey, I totally agree with Cheryl. I was totally... I didn't expect your voice to be that good, it was really good."
DM: "It was a real surprise, but it's so cute, your personality and the voice, and you didn't falter anywhere in it."
SC: "Stacey, I am rarely surprised. But I have to be honest with you, that completely took me by surprise, that performance. It really did. I think you are really, really good."
SC: "I really like that girl. I think she's really good."
DM: "So cute."
CC: "She's just a different person from when she talks to when she sings."
SC: "I wasn't expecting that."
(Song choice: Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World)
Duane Lamonte (YYYY)
Appeared last year but was rejected at the boot camp stage. Simon asked him to perform a second song because there were fears he wasn't modern enough. Was very good on both of his songs.
SC: "Okay, Duane, that's made me make my mind up now."
CC: "Liked you last year, loved you this year."
(Song choice: Marvin Gaye - Ain't No Mountain High Enough)
(Second song: Beyonce Knowles - Broken-Hearted Girl)
Katy Bullock (YYYY)
Brave enough to turn up in biker gear, only small clip shown but she looked good.
LW: "Katy, you've got a great image."
SC: "Brilliant."
(Song choice: Pixie Lott - Mama Do)
Roy Robson (NYYY)
Only small clip shown again, but he looked okay.
CC: "Great song choice, and I think you sang it really well."
SC: "Great song choice."
LW: "I'm not sure we're looking at a star though."
SC: "Roy, you don't fit Louis's mould though. You haven't got blonde hair, you're not wearing a blazer, and you're not singing You Raise Me Up. He wouldn't want you as his mentor. Can you imagine?"
(Song choice: The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved)
Laura White (YYNY)
Not the same as last years! She seemed quite average though to be honest.
SC: "Brilliant audition."
(Song choice: Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You)
Joseph McElderry (YYYY)
He seems like a nice guy but I don't really see what all the fuss is about with his singing.
DM: "Joseph, you brought a great performance, great voice, great looks, dimples, what more could a girl want?"
LW: "Joseph, I'm really glad you came to audition. You sang a great song, you've got great likeability, the girls are going to love you, hey, you've just made the competition get very, very exciting."
CC: "And you just did me really proud, and I'm really proud you're representing our city, thank you very much."
SC: "Now Joseph, you told me you'd had no experience prior to this audition? Well I've got to tell you, astonishing. I mean you're really really potentially very good."
SC: "You know what? We may just have found ourselves a pop star."
SC: "I like him."
LW: "He just had it all."
SC: "Great singer."
(Song choice: Luther Vandross - Dance With My Father)
John & Edward (YYYN)
This group only got through to the next round because of their performance; their singing was painfully average.
SC: "Not very good, and incredibly annoying. Two of the most irritating people we've had out here in a long long time."
CC: "Something intriguing about you, but I just don't know if it's in a... in a good way or a...not."
LW: "You really do look like pop stars, you know. I think you've got something, I do think you could be worked on, yeah."
DM: "Absolutely the cockiest couple of singers I've ever come across that don't have a record deal yet, but..."
LW: "I think it's cheeky... I think it's cheeky more than cocky."
SC: "It's not cheeky. It's annoying."
DM: "No, it's definitely cocky..."
LW: "It's nice Irish!"
DM: "...but, I like you guys."
SC: "Annoying, obnoxious, everything I despise."
(Song choice: The Backstreet Boys - As Long As You Love Me)
